Decorating Tips for your Living Room
Posted on August 31, 2010 · Leave a CommentThere are simple things you can do to update or “freshen” your living room with color and more!
For example, if your entire room is decorated in beige and brown, obviously, you need another color to break the dull pattern and brighten up the room. And that’s just one idea– Real Simple lists 40 different things you can do to decorate and upgrade the space, like:
- adding a bouquet of bright colored flowers to the room
- tossing colorful throw pillows onto sofas and chairs
- adding a stack of your favorite reads to your end table
- mixing in bold prints like zebra stripes
- inserting a pattern rug into the room to give off a beautiful contrast
For the most part, these upgrades can stay the same throughout the different seasons; it just depends on the look you’re going for. For example, rust, beige, brown and teal are year-round colors.

What About… “The Other Guys?”
Posted on August 20, 2010 · Leave a CommentI know some great movies are coming out today, but I can’t seem to shake the fact that I haven’t seen “The Other Guys” yet. So today, when everyone is going to see today’s releases, I’ll be purchasing tickets to see the two-week old movie starring Will Farrow, Samuel L. Jackson, The Rock, and other familiar faces.
Here’s the gist of the story:
Detective Allen Gamble is a forensic accountant who’s more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets. Detective Terry Hoitz is a tough guy who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an unfortunate run-in with Derek Jeter. Allen and Terry idolize the city’s top cops, Danson and Highsmith, but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don’t quite go as plan… ~Yahoo movies
I expect this movie to have me rolling!!!!
And in case you haven’t seen previews, check out this trailer:
This movie is available at Kansas City movie theaters!!!

Relax at Cafe` Roux in Leawood
Posted on August 18, 2010 · Leave a CommentIt’s a rare occasion now when you’re able to eat at a restaurant and come back with change in your wallet. Coming to Cafe`Roux is an exception.
Not only is the food delicious (and are reasonable prices), Cafe’ Roux has a happy hour daily (4 to 7 p.m.) that’s definitely light on the wallet.
Here, you’ll find Cajun/ Creole dishes resembling the taste of classic New Orleans food, like gumbo, crawfish etouffee and catfish po’boy. While you wait for your meal, you’ll also get a sample Fritz’s peppery andouille sausage.
And don’t forget to add in the southern food standards…. fried chicken, braised baby back ribs and andouille will keep your mouth watering. They also serve different types of fish, baked or fried to perfection, with your choice of sides.
Getting hungry yet?
Cafe`Roux has an extensive menu (including dessert), so you won’t be disappointed. And all of their meals are under $20.
If you’re looking for a soul food kind of meal, you should definitely try the place out! It’s located in Leawood.

Corn…. Shrimp… How About Cooking Tips?
Posted on August 9, 2010 · Leave a CommentPlanning on cooking some shrimp and corn tonight? That sounds like a good meal, right? But before you do, I thought it would be nice to give you some simple tips to use so that you’ll create a delicious meal!
If you’re grilling shrimp:
- Grill them with the shells on. This will keep the meat moist inside and absorbs flavor better. You can find shrimp that can easily peel at your local Super Walmart and other markets in Kansas City.
If you’re using frozen corn:
- Fresh corn tastes better, but if you’re buying frozen kernels, you can cook them so that they still taste good. As it’s boiling, add 1 tablespoon of flour to create a thicker and creamier substance. Add diced onions to give it a great flavor!
I think I’ll cook this for dinner, along with a salad.
What are you cooking tonight? Better yet, what are some tips you use when cooking shrimp and corn?
